The race is on for municipal, fire protection district and school board candidates in local elections to be held April 2, 2013.

The official filing period began Dec. 11 and will run until Jan. 15, 2013. Patch has a list of all those who have filed so far in the elections that will impact Ballwin and Ellisville residents.

City of Ballwin

Positions for the mayor and a seat in each of the four wards for the board of aldermen are open for candidacy. Aldermen and mayor positions serve two-year terms. (Filings as of Jan. 15)

• Mayor: Current Mayor Tim Pogue
• Ward 1: Incumbent James Terbrock, Karen Glanz
• Ward 2: Incumbent Mark Harder
• Ward 3: Incumbent Jim Leahy
• Ward 4: Michael J. Boland; Raymond L. Kerlagon withdrew candidacy Jan. 15

City of Ellisville

Three of six city council seats are open for candidacy, one from each district. Council members serve four-year terms. (Filings as of Jan. 15)

• District 1: Chris Turner, Gary Voss
• District 2: Incumbent Troy Pieper, Mick Cahill, Adi Surti
• District 3: Cindy Pool, Robert Srote, Denny Lober

West County EMS and Fire Protection District

The seat of West County EMS and Fire Protection District Board Chair Richard Rognan expires in April. Rognan has reportedly served on the board for 12 years. He is CPA with Rognan & Associates.

Metro West Fire Protection District

Metro West Fire Protection District has one position on its board that will expire next spring; it is held by Tim Flora, who currently chairs the group.

Michael Thiemann, Metro's coordinator of Emergency Management, said Flora did file. Flora has served on this board for the past 12 years. Steve Ward, who was a former Metro West assistant chief also has filed. 

Monarch Fire Protection District

The seat of Monarch Fire Protection District board of director Kim Evans expires in April. Evans has served as a MFPD director for the past 5-1/2 years; she currently is the board president.

Parkway School District

Two director positions are open on the Parkway Board of Education, each for a three-year term, in the April 2013 election.  The expiring terms are for Tom Appelbaum and Dr. Sam Sciortino. The seats are not individually up for election, instead the top two vote-getters from all the candidates will be elected to the open spots.

A candidate forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters, is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, March 11, at Parkway South Middle School, 760 Woods Mill Rd., 63011.

Rockwood School District

Rockwood School District's Board of Education will fill two seats, as the terms of directors Janet Strate and Stephen Banton expire in April.

Kathy Chitwood, secretary to the Rockwood Board of Education, confirmed Strate and Banton have filed. Strate was first elected to the board in 2004. Banton was elected to the board in 1998, and is completing his fifth term.

On Monday, two more candidates filed: Loralee Mondl and Jeffrey Morrell.

Prospective Rockwood Board of Education candidates may file paperwork from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Rockwood’s Administrative Center, 111 E. North Street in Eureka. The office will be open until 5 p.m. on Jan. 15.
