Ellisville Sued for Red-Light Camera Use

Ellisville has become a target in a class-action lawsuit involving the city's former use of red-light cameras.

The City of Ellisville and three other municipalities are being sued in a class-action lawsuit targeting the cities' use of red-light cameras.

In addition to Creve Coeur, Arnold and Florissant, as well as camera vendor American Traffic Solutions (or ATS), Ellisville was named in the suit filed earlier this month, which first was reported by The Riverfront Times.

The suit seeks refunds for those who have been ticketed using red-light camera technology in those cities, in addition to stopping the use of the cameras in municipalities where they still are active, which is the case in Ellisville. In the first 13 months of operation, red-light cameras at the intersection of Clarkson and Manchester Roads , in addition to revenue paid to ATS.

"In Creve Coeur and Ellisville they're not even trying to go after the actual driver who allegedly violated the signal," Ryan Keane, an attorney for the plaintiffs, told The Riverfront Times. "They automatically assume it's the owner of the vehicle—whether or not that's is the actual case."
