Fast Five: Parkway West Takes on Webster Groves

Patch asked Parkway West Head Football Coach Jeff Duncan five quick questions about the team and their next opponent.

The Parkway West varsity football team is on the road again against the Webster Groves Statesmen (3-2) this week.

With the Longhorns dishing out continuous efforts to pick up a win, the team presses on in the season with four games remaining. Ballwin-Ellisville Patch asked Head Coach Jeff Duncan about the team, the season and their competition.

Patch: What will be the team's biggest challenge against Webster Groves?

Parkway West Head Football Coach Jeff Duncan: Our challenge has been the same each week. Offensively we have to move the ball effectively and not beat ourselves with turnovers & costly penalties. Defensively we cannot give up big plays.

Patch: What has been your favorite part of the season thus far?

Duncan: Our players. We have a great group of kids who work hard each day.  They play together and believe in each other. It's tough when things are not going well. Our guys continue to support each other and are getting better each week.

Patch: How can Longhorns fans support the team?

Duncan: By being positive and supporting the boys. Quite honestly we have a great group of parents, teachers and fans who support our team each week.

Patch: How many seniors are on the team, and when is Senior Night?

Duncan: We have 12 seniors. Senior night is October 12. We are also going to retire Blaine Gabbert's jersey that night.

Patch: What is the team doing differently this week to improve?

Duncan: Our goals continue to stay the same. We have had a really good week of practice and are excited about the opportunity to play Webster Groves this week.

The Longhorns play Webster Groves for an away game Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. To see where other Longhorns teams are playing and when, check "Longhorns in Action" each week for a round-up of team schedules on Patch.

It is the closest public high school, but area students also attend Marquette and Lafayette in neighboring Patches. Still working on coverage for other elementary and middle schools. :)
