Hearing on Wendy's-Area Sales Tax Hits Tuesday

Unless overruled by a judge, the district surrounding the future Wendy's and U-Gas would be subject to an additional 1 percent sales tax imposed by the site's developer.

A public hearing regarding a special tax district meant to help the developers behind a proposed Wendy's restaurant and U-Gas in central Ballwin recoup construction costs is scheduled for Tuesday evening.

The transportation development district or TDD being sought by property owners be would place an additional 1 percent sales tax on all transactions within the district. Funds garnered by the TDD by law are required to be used for transportation improvements, which developer Bill Biermann of W.B. Biermann in Chesterfield said would go toward the cost of implementing pavement, retaining walls, infrastructure for storm water drainage and street lights.

Following a petition filed on behalf of the site's property owners, a public hearing will be held before a final decision to approve the district is given by a judge in St. Louis County Court.

The public hearing regarding the TDD is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ballwin Elementary School.
