Wendy's Will Host Ballwin Elementary for Grand Opening

The new Wendy's location in Ballwin will officially open Jan. 15.

Wendy's will open to the public in Ballwin Jan. 15 at 10 a.m., after hosting Ballwin Elementary students for a special grand opening Monday.

Selected 5th grade students from the elementary school who made outstanding academic achievements will be treated to a free meal at the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Jan. 14, according to a press release from the restaurant. Faculty, staff and the students' families are also invited.

"When our staff saw the new Wendy’s being built, we were excited that they were going to be our neighbors," said Tim Buss, Ballwin Elementary principal in the release. "When they called to invite us to the ribbon cutting ceremony, it was icing on the cake. They allowed us to invite our staff and our outstanding fifth grade class and families to the opening celebration where dinner will be provided for all the guests free of charge."

Wendy's will also be making a donation to Ballwin Elementary as part of the ceremony. The funds will benefit student activities at the school, according to the release.

The release detailed the new Wendy's features, calling it "ultra-modern" and describing it as different than traditional Wendy's locations.

The Ballwin location, at 14799 Manchester Road, will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily with drive-thru service until 1 a.m.

"The release detailed ..."
What is this 'release' you speak of?
Does it have a URL or link?
If you are going to quote a published source, then provide the reference. Journalism 101 folks.
You can do better, Patch & Bryanna.

Other than that, good local interest article.
Suggestion: articles highlighting locally owned businesses over press releases from international publicly traded companies.

If this Wendy's is a locally owned franchise, maybe some info on the franchisee and their ties to the community?

Also, there is a slight 'ick' factor to a fast food joint 'partnering' with an elementary school. And we wonder why we have an obesity problem...

Any thoughts from Ballwin Elementary cafeteria staff on Mr. Buss' glowing comments just short of an endorsement in exchange for a 'donation' by Wendy's?

Mike K, thanks for your comment. The press release, as attributed in the story, was provided by Wendy's and was sent to news organizations. It is not published elsewhere that I am aware of, so I shared what it said here. :)
