City of Ellisville/Special Operations Warrior Foundation 5K Run/Walk & Kid's Fun Run

Bluebird Park, 225 Kiefer Creek Rd, Ellisville, MO | Get Directions »
$25.00

The City of Ellisville’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its annual 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.  The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of fallen special operations military personnel and provides immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel and their families.  Their mission is to provide a college education to every child who lost a parent while serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps Special Operations during an operational or training mission.

The SOWF (formerly known as the Bull Simons Scholarship Fund) was established in 1980 to provide college educations to the 17 children of the eight American Special Operations personnel who were killed during the failed Iranian hostage rescue attempt in April of that same year.  Since 1980 over 800 special operations personnel (the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps) have died while serving in operational or training missions.  These brave Americans left behind over 900 children.  As of today, the SOWF is assisting more than 150 children who are attending colleges across the nation.  In the past three years, they have provided over $1,300,020 so families can be at the hospital with their wounded special operations service member.  To learn more about the foundation, please visit www.specialops.org.

The run will be held in scenic Bluebird Park, and the course features slight inclines, gentle hills and flat stretches winding throughout the neighborhood streets of Ellisville and Ballwin. This is a great course to go at your own pace, make it an all out race, or make it a morning stroll. All fitness levels are welcomed.

The run/walk will begin at 8:30 a.m.  Check-in time is from 7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m.  In addition, there is a FREE Kid’s Fun Run immediately following the 5K run/walk.  Following the Kid’s Fun Run, an award ceremony will be held.

Registration for the event is $25.00 through Wednesday, October 3, and $30.00 on race day.  You can register online at www.getmeregistered.com by mail or at the Ellisville Parks Administration Building in Bluebird Park.
