R&R in Order for Redbirds

Rest can be a good thing when struggling to find victories in close games; the Cardinals have Monday off to prepare to perform in the thin air one mile above sea level.

A strong bout against the Chicago Cubs this past weekend left the Cardinals' wings tired and tested.  After stunning performances by our major players behind the plate, the Cards were only able to take one from three at Wrigley.  Clutch and power are two words that come to my mind about our roster's performances over the past three days, however lacking to come through in the end to seal a "W".

Still perched above .500, the Cardinals blew back to seven and a half games behind division rival Cincinnati.  Their last ten games do show a surging of quick performance and agile defence posting a seven and three record that a day off may just be in order as they'll need their strength climbing up the mountain to visit Colorado.  (For more standings and stats on the cardinals, visit stlcardinals.com or mlb.com)

Since the All-Star Game, the Cardinals have still played with consistency and drive.  No one particular performance really sticks out in my mind as what's been the best as so many have been clutch and precise when it comes to hitting and defense.  The unfortunate reality behind some of these games have come too little too late in close games.  I've mentioned before about the importance Manager Matheny has put onto winning these close games; I'm positive he's working his players toward that goal each day and wants to stay his course.

Cardinals, enjoy your day off, and mentally prepare to perform atop the Rockies.  The thin air can always help a line drive carry a bit further or a pitch to just zip a little quicker in those clutch moments we love to watch.
