Charter Switching Up Channels, Be Sure to Reset DVRs

Charter is set to add 28 HD channels and reorganize 90 percent of its channel locations this week.

After Saturday you may feel like you don't know which button to press on your remote to get to your favorite programs. That's because Charter is adding 28 new high definition (HD) channels to its cable lineup, but in the process, its also relocating more than 90 percent of its channels.

Sean O’Donnell, Charter’s vice president and general manager for Missouri and Illinois said the changes are about keeping Charter customers ahead of the pack in the City of Ballwin, and throughout the Greater St. Louis area.

“More than 60 percent of U.S. households enjoy HD programming, and we’re committed to providing our customers with the best HD experience," he said.

All the changes will rollout between now and April 25. Here's how it will work:

  • Wednesday: Farmington, Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, Florissant, Ferguson, Jennings
  • Thursday: St. Louis City, Overland, St. Charles
  • Saturday: Barnhart, Olivette, Suburban cities near St. Louis metro that are not specifically mentioned but have Charter service such as Chesterfield, Ballwin, Hazelwood, Town and Country, Manchester, Creve Coeur, Kirkwood, etc.
  • April 24: Illinois areas Charter services as part of Greater St. Louis

If you are faithful to your DVR, another thing you will need to to is re-set your settings. If you want to make sure all your show record correctly you've have to switch the recording times over to the new channel listings. O’Donnell said this can be a pain but added the reward is worth it.

“We also understand that switching channel locations may cause some customer confusion at first, but we’re starting early to educate our customers about the transition and we’re confident our customers will find the category-based groupings more convenient,” he said.

If you haven't already, you should receive a new channel listing guide highlighting the 28 new HD channels, and detailing the new location of other channels. Information about channel locations is also available online at Charter's website designated for the purpose.

Are you excited about the new HD channels, or more upset about having to learn your favorite channel settings all over again?
