Comments from Patchland: For Restaurant Memories, Guns and Prescription Cold Medicine

Some of the best comments this week are some of the most poignant, remembering people who died, places that died and slogans that died.

We love it when people have something nice to say, too! Some of the week's best comments remembered lost relatives, failed restaurants and the passing of a city slogan from one to another. And alas, we have our share of snarky remarks.

What makes you think things will happen then?
"The Council meeting Monday night was quite entertaining, but I walked away with one obvious conclusion: Nothing will be accomplished by these politicians until after the elections of April 2012! How sad it is for Florissant that progress is being held at bay due to an outdated charter that is so difficult to amend?"

We never have
"Never underestimate the power of a small group of people to handicap tens of thousands of children."

Meth making math doesn't add up
Jefferson County Legislators, County Executive Appeal for Arnold to Restrict Cold Medicine Sales
"So, when drug users and dealers think up some terrible way to abuse and popularize something else, like Pepto-Bismol, are we going to restrict, ban and demand more bureaucracy for all other consumers due to the bad behavior of a few?"

"Don't penalize those who follow the rules. Meth makers will just find another way, just like with the tracking system that is used now."

Ready, aim, lecture
"Immature brains only need a split second to create a tragedy. Are there exceptions? Yes. A few. I would never allow a child in my home to use such a thing without an adult presence."

"When the time is right, and he is mature enough, he will have a serious talk, as well as attend a safety course...even if it's just a BB gun. Through Boy Scouts, he can work on his merit badge, too. He must understand that rules surrounding this topic are not made to be flexible or broken."

Where's Richard Dawson when you need him?
"I would be happy to vote for (a tax) increase if I had any confidence in the decision-making ability of the board and the (superindent). I don't, nor do many of their constituents at this point. The remedy? Start the process to clean house. Resignations would be welcomed."

Heartbroken by beauty?
"I knew Florissant growing up, being part of and attending many 'Valley of Flowers' parades and celebrations that I cannot think of another motto as endearing for Florissant. 'The Beautiful City' signs just broke my heart to see because I grew up with the 'Valley of Flowers' being part of the Florissant heritage."

He's her husband; he has to say this, right?
"Really an amazing effort by Mayor Wilkerson to get the 'dissolve St. George' ballot measure to the polls as promised during her write-in campaign to become mayor."

Touched by a tribute
"I'm so sorry, my prayers go out to the Thorntons, and Kayla will be included in my prayers for my son as well. Joshua also had cystic fibrosis and had a transplant. He developed a minor fever, and his transplant team at Barnes said to bring him in. By the time we got there he was in respiratory failure… We removed him from life support 23 days later. He was 24."

Not bashing parents this time
"There are already laws in existence to cover underage drinking. I, too, am completely against permitting minors to drink or supplying alcohol to minors, but a law like this leaves much room for circumstances beyond a parent's control despite their best efforts."

Restaurant roars no more
"I really hate to see The Red Lion close. Seems it just opened…I really hope this trend of successful businesses closing does NOT continue."
— , Maplewood-Brentwood Patch

"RIP Red Lion! The memories will always be in our hearts. Well wishes to Berry. All the good times, and shots, we shared will forever be remembered. Thanks for you delish food, generosity and friendship."
