Ellisville Library to Host Lego Block Party, Tai Chi

The Ellisville branch of the St. Louis County Library association will host various events and programs next month, including a 'Lego Block Party,' self-defense classes, a live version of the hit game 'Angry Birds' and more.

Families of any age looking for ways to make the most of summer will find plenty of opportunities to do so next month at the in Ellisville. Check out the classes and programs offered below, and if something stands out, be sure to tell us in the comments section.

Monday, July 2, 7:00 p.m.
Art @ Your Library: Contemporary Pop Singing Workshop

Join STAGES for a chance to learn vocal singing technique while singing some of today's hottest songs. This one–time workshop will provide tips on improving proper breathing, diction and projection, as well as characterization and interpretation of the lyrics for performance. We will work on songs as a group, while also giving everyone a chance to shine with solos! Ages 9–13. Registration required.

Dave Simon and the Kidzrock Band
Come to a real live rock concert. The house band from Dave Simon’s Rock School will be performing and is sure to get the crowd moving. Electric guitars, drums and vocals will bring fun songs to life as you sing and dance to tunes about the alphabet, playing at the park, dinosaurs and traffic lights. Space is limited.

We will discuss “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford. It is the 1940s in Seattle. Two 12–year–olds, Chinese American Henry and Japanese American Keiko, meet and form a secret bond of friendship and love. Forty years later Henry comes upon belongings of displaced Japanese families in an old hotel and his love is revived. Refreshments served. Registration requested.
