Marquette Tunes Up for 'Battle of the Bands'

Seven high school bands get ready to compete Thursday night for prizes and prestige in support of Marquette High's freshmen class.

The stage is set at Marquette High School for a Battle of the Bands this Thursday, February 24 at 7:00 PM.  Seven bands, all composed of Marquette students, will be competing for a $250 grand prize.

Contestants will be judged by a combination of a guest panel of judges and crowd reaction, so bring your clapping hands and cheering voice for what organizers said should be a spectacular display.

“We are very impressed with the talent of these musicians,” said Eileen Holtzman, a parent and co-chair of Marquette's 2014 graduating class.

Holtzman said she's pleased the school can provide a quality music venue to showcase local talent, particularly when several of the bands slated to play are advanced well beyond their years, she said.

"They obviously take their music seriously and worked very hard leading up to the show," Holtzman said. "It's hard to believe some of these kids are still in high school.”

Tickets to the concert are $8 in advance (available at Marquette High School's front office) and $10 at the door. Thursday night will be Marquette's fourth Battle of the Bands, which will serve as a fundraiser for the freshmen class for its 'Senior Farewell' celebration.
