On Conclave, Cardinal Dolan Tells Stephen Colbert: "I Lost"

The Ballwin native has released an ebook detailing this year's conclave that elected a new head of the Catholic Church.

The return of Comedy Central's Colbert Report to the late night television lineup after a summer break this week had a decidedly Ballwin flair to it, as Timothy Cardinal Dolan, a Ballwin native and now Archbishop of New York, was the first interview guest on Tuesday for host Stephen Colbert.

Cardinal Dolan was there to promote his new ebook, “Praying in Rome: Reflections on the Conclave and Electing Pope Francis.” Dolan, who grew up at Holy Infant Parish in Ballwin, couldn't reveal his vote in the conclave under Vatican rules. He joked that he "lost" the race, a nod to wild speculation heading into the Conclave that he could have been elected as the first American Pope. Of the result that elected Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, now known as Pope Francis, Dolan told Colbert, "I'm glad he got it. I think we did a good job."
