Parkway Welcomes Students To First Day Of School

Written by Jared Grafman.

Parkway students returned to class for the 2013-14 school year Tuesday. For Central High it means a full day of learning, from 7:35 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. when the students board buses and head home.Β

"We had a great first day," Principal Tim McCarthy said. "The students were excited to be back, it's always great to have them back."

It always takes students and staff a while to get used to the flow of the school year, but everything normally settles down by the end of the first week of classes.

"It takes us a couple of days, between lunch and dismissal, it takes a couple days to get kids into the routine."

Tuesday was McCarthy's third "First Day," as principal of Parkway Central High.

"There's always an energy in the building that is suitable for a high school, for all schools, when kids come back in August," he said. The first day of the new school year is his favorite. "There is something about today that no other day of the year replicates. It's just a special day."
