Mayor: Walmart Pulls Out Of Ellisville Project

Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul said Saturday that Walmart officials and the developer working to bring the retailing giant to the city had notified parties that the project would not move forward.

The project has been the source of community controversy for several years and was about to tested by a city council hearing and vote to revoke a permit granted last fall.

Paul said word came to the city via the city engineer and city manager Kevin Bookout from Walmart and that the developer the Sansone Group had notified property owners Friday.

In a Walmart statement reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the company said “We’ve decided not to proceed with our involvement in the Ellisville development,” adding that it had done "all that was required of us to formally advance our project."

Before the news of the pullout came, the city council was planning to hold a public hearing sometime in the coming days where it would possibly then vote to revoke the conditional use permit for the project.
