Ballwin, Ellisville Grocers Pull Excedrin Products
Excedrin and Bufferin are just some of the medicines produced by Novartis, an international pharmaceutical company that issued a recall Sunday.
Pharmacies in Ballwin, Ellisville and throughout the U.S. reacted Monday to a recall initiated by a manufacturer of Excedrin and several other common over-the-counter medicines.
The recall was issued Sunday by Novartis International AG, a pharmaceutical company that produces Excedrin, NoDoz, Gas-X and Bufferin, all four of which were at least partially included in the recall; Excedrin and NoDoz products with expiration dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier were included in the recall, along with Bufferin and Gas-X products expiring Dec. 20, 2013 or sooner.
The Associated Press reports that the recall is related to problems at the company's plant in Lincoln, NE, which includes broken and chipped pills as well as inconsistent packaging, both of which could cause the pills to get mixed up.

"Mixing of different products in the same bottle could result in consumers taking the incorrect product and receiving a higher or lower strength than intended or receiving an unintended ingredient," Schnucks representatives said in a media statement.
Locally, grocers such as Schnucks, Dierbergs in Ellisville and Shop 'n Save in Ellisville all pulled the products covered under the recall.
"There was quite a few of them, actually," said Ellisville Shop 'n Save Manager Earl Jones, adding that approximately 24 different medicines were taken off the shelves Monday. "But yes, they've all been pulled."
