Ellisville Kmart to Host Clothing Recyclery

The parking lot at the Ellisville retailer soon will offer a new service.

Shoppers normally would go to Kmart to buy clothes, but at least for next month, they also will be able to drop off parts of their old wardrobe.

The Ellisville City Council this week approved a clothing-recycling receptacle to be placed on the property there near the intersection of Clarkson and Manchester roads for the month April. Daniel Rubenstein is a recycling specialist with USAgain, LLC, which will maintain the receptacle.

He said the clothes collected there will be awarded to a charity of the host’s choice, while also providing a service to the community.

“Because the amount of unwanted clothing is staggering,” Rubenstein said.

Rubenstein said the receptacle is likely to be in place the first week of April. Depending on how smoothly the operation runs in terms of its weekly pickups and the potential for overflow, Rubenstein said USAgain may seek an extension to make the Kmart lot a permanent dropoff location.
