What Happened To Frailey's?

The Manchester Road restaurant sits vacant now. Social media suggests it was open as recently as a few weeks ago.

Diners looking for pub fare at a longtime Ellisville restaurant will not be able to get their fix at Frailey's anymore.

The Pub and Grill closed recently, although it was not immediately clear when or why.

The restaurant's signage was down, leaving only the outline of its name in place. A handwritten note said the eatery was closed for business.

Calls seeking comment from the restaurant and the developer of the Manchester Road property were not returned earlier this week.

The strip mall has been hit by recent defections of Shoe Carnival and Gordmans, among other retailers.

Are you surprised by the news? What did you think of Frailey's?

That shopping center is an abomination. I wouldn't renew a lease there. Maybe their lease was up.

We rarely ate there but I always hate to witness the failure of a business. I hope that Pizzarelli survives. They have the most authentic New York style pizza in west county. My New Yorker hubby would probably cry if they closed.

@Mary - thanks for suggesting Pizzarelli! We've never tried it, but now that you brought it up - it sounds really intriguing! On the topic of Frailey's, I'm surprised that none of the former employees have spoken up. The last time we were there (May) it did seem tired, but the patio was nice on a pretty day.

I am sure it was because of the property management. We had an office at one of their properties and they were ruthless. There was nothing like watching a ballgame at Frailey's with my family. They will be missed.

Maybe the developer/property owner is clearing it out to lure in the new city hall we don't need. Or maybe they're making room for a new welfare/food stamps/substance abuse/unemployment office to handle the walmart employees and greeter job applicants. Or more likely, it is more fallout from Perrillo's Great Streets (crack) pipe dream that has done more to create an anti-business climate in Ellisville during his terms as Mayor and council member. He doesn't understand that polishing that turd, no matter how hard you try, it is still a turd.

We missed Frailey's old menu favorites when they changed some years ago, but we found them at The Press Box at Chesterfield Pkwy E & Conway on the lot of Residence Inn St. Louis Chesterfield. It's further for us but always enjoy the food and sports on TVs. The bar is a nice draw for many also. Hate to see Frailey's close. But talk to the proprietors of many local Successful businesses; the developer wants a bigger cut yet and many have to choose to fight for a fair price, close or move.

Another small business bites the dust. Ellisville needs that Walmart anchor as soon as possible

Reality is that in most cases, more area businesses close with the arrival of a Wal-Mart. Check the facts.

Frailey's put a bad taste in my mouth. Certain things are hard to forget. Hope I forget the name and never hear it again.
