Warm Winter to Welcome Hot Activities in Ballwin

The Parks and Recreation Department is offering a variety of events starting throughout the month of February, including self defense classes, dances and more.

The Ballwin Parks & Recreation Department on Monday announced upcoming specials and activities which could help residents make the most of an .

Team sports instruction will be available late next month through the "Start Smart Sport Development Program," available to kids ages 3 to 5 meant to give aspiring young athletes an understanding of team sports such as basketball, basebal and soccer. Additional program offerrings cover dancing, tumbling, upcoming camps and race opportunities for Ballwin's more competitive athletes.

Included in the latter group is the city's Dirty Spokes Mountain Bike Race (formerly called ""), which will make its second appearance at this April after premiering last year.

"That's our next big race that were extremely excited about," Ballwin Recreation Specialist Julie Vogel said.

Vogel said last year's race drew about 45 racers who registered in advance, followed by dozens more race-day registrations for a total of 99 participants.

"And we're truly excited to see how much it has grown in a year," Vogel said.

Save up to 10% off a North Pointe pool pass. Ballwin Golf Club

 2012 Park Pavilion Reservations

Reservations are currently being accepted for use of a park pavilion for 2012. Come into The Pointe and make your reservation for your birthday party, summer picnic or family reunion.

 Ballwin Bucks Did you know the City of Ballwin has Ballwin Bucks which is the city’s gift card program?   Load any denomination on a Ballwin Buck swipe card and the recipient can use it at The Pointe, North Pointe or the Ballwin Golf Course.  Ballwin Bucks can be used for daily admission, memberships, programs, classes, green fees, concessions and pro shop items.  Pointe Birthday Parties Have your birthday party or next celebration at The Pointe! The Pointe offers three party packages to fit your group needs and budget.  Birthday party packages include; 1 hour in party room, unlimited use of the indoor waterpark, gymnasium, Pointe Activity Center, ping pong and pool tables and more!  All party packages include; pizza, decorated themed cake, refreshments, party cups, invitations, and paper plates, napkins and utensils. Grab your parents and get moving!  Ballwin On The Move is an instructor led program featuring a variety of classes. February will feature proper form for functional movement with Pointe Personal Trainer, Scott Grogan.  Learn exercises that require little or no equipment for a great total body workout.  A 6:30pm class is designed for younger kids ages 5-8 and their parents.  The 7:30pm class is designed for kids ages 9 and up. Each class is 45 minutes.  Fees cover the class and admission to The Pointe for the evening!  Pre-registration is not required, but is offered at a discounted fee. February class is FUNctional Movement!  Day of drop in fee: $7 /person.         

Basic Training

Attention! There are no 'at ease' moments in this six week, 24-class boot camp style class.  Each class features 25-40 minutes of calisthenics/drills followed by a class run/jog. Open to all fitness levels, this class is sure to get your day kick started. The Start Smart Sport Development program is a developmentally appropriate, introductory program that teaches basic skills for baseball, soccer, and basketball for children ages 3 to 5 years old.  Parents work together with their children in a supportive environment to learn basic skills of catching, throwing, kicking and dribbling.

Kids Night Out

Camp Open House

Ballwin Trivia Night

Come out and find out just how smart you really are!  The 9th Annual Ballwin Trivia Night held at the Ballwin Golf Club will be fun, exciting, and most of all...humbling.  You are welcome to bring your own snacks.  Beer and soda are provided and pre-registration is required.  Doors open at 6pm and trivia starts at 7pm.

Tumbling Tykes

Children will be introduced to gymnastics through fun activities that teach the body control, agility, strength and balance. This class focuses on keeping your child moving in a fun atmosphere.  We will play games and activities that will build confidence, promote physical well-being, and enhance social skills.

Adult Egg Hunt

Join us for a huge Adult Egg Hunt at Schroeder Park in Manchester.  The cities of Ballwin, Ellisville, and Manchester have joined to bring you the biggest egg hunt around.  With prizes donated by local businesses, tons of eggs and a number of give a ways.  The night will conclude with some fun by the bonfire.  BYOB, no bottles allowed. Ages 21 and up. Bring your own snacks.  We will provide the bags but you will need your own flashlight.  Pre-registration required.

Dirty Spokes Mountain Bike Race

Sunday, April 15, 8am                                     VIP/Reg $30 thru March 27
                                                                           March 28 to Race Day  $35
The Second Annual Dirty Spokes Mountain Bike Race will be held on the trails of Castlewood State Park.  This race is open to all abilities.  The race is divided into three categories:
     Category A: 5 laps-reserved for the advanced, experienced rider. 
     Category B: 3 laps-reserved for the intermediate rider.   
     Category C: 2 laps-reserved for the beginner rider. 
Register before Wednesday, March 28 for $30 and be guaranteed a shirt, registration increase on March 28 to $35 and does not guarantee a shirt.  Rain date is Sunday, April 22.

Youth Movement

Ages:  5-14                                                                                            FREE
The Youth Movement is a physical activity incentive program designed to get kids moving.  Each child simply keeps a log of their physical activity and parents help their children log their activities.  Kids can earn visits to The Pointe or North Pointe to be used by themselves or shared with friends! The lessons are available during regular pool hours at The Pointe.  Private swim lessons are perfect for individuals seeking one-on-one instruction with a qualified instructor.  Each lesson is 30 minutes in length, and set up according to your schedule!  Private lessons are available in packages of one, three, or six. Little Splashers

Ages 0-5.  Here is your opportunity to bring your tots to an open and fun environment to splash and socialize at the indoor pool.  Pool space is limited to the play area and adults are required to be in swimsuits and actively supervising your children in the water.

Waterpark Lifeguarding Course

Friday, March 23, 6-9pm                                    VIP $140/Reg $165
Saturdays and Sundays - March 24, 25, 31, and April 1, 9-6pm Ages 15+. This course will provide skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies, as well as providing care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.  Course pre-requisite applies.  Participants must be 15 or older on or prior to April 1.  Attendance is required at all sessions.  No exceptions will be made.  Held at The Pointe Indoor Pool.  Contact Aquatic Manager, Adam at 636-207-2327.

Ballwin Swim and Dive Team Registration

Come and join the Ballwin Swim and Dive Team at one of our registration meetings and receive a $10 discount per participant. The first 30 minutes of the meeting on March 27 and 31 will include information on the program for new families or anyone that has questions. New for 2012: Alternate Evening Practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:30-8:30 pm. Please remember to bring your checkbooks and calendars to the meetings to choose your volunteer shifts.
