Ellisville Dog Park Moving Brick By Brick to Fall Opening

The Dog Park Committee has been fundraising "little by little" for two years.

The Ellisville Dog Park Committee is looking forward to seeing "go to the dogs" this fall.

City Councilwoman Linda Reel said the dog park will end up costing $25,000, none of which will be spent in tax dollars. She said they are hoping, weather permitting, for a late October/early November grand opening.

"We've been earning money little by little," Reel said.

Reel and fellow dog park supporter Sue Price shared that the fence surrounding the canine play area had been purchased, looking for the pieces to start coming in early September.

"We want a place that's open to the community and its surrounding areas," Reel said. "For Ballwin, Manchester -- anywhere."

Park memberships cost $40 per year and run January to January. Registrations open at the Pooch Plunges events Sept. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the .

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held immediately following the festivities Sept. 8.

Reel and other committee members have been pitching up tent at the Ellisville Community Farmers Market and spearheading fundraising events for the past two years.

With gatherings like Yappy Hours and dog plunges in the park to selling pup accessories, the committee will continue to organize giving opportunities as they approach the October phase one completion deadline. Brick pavers are the most recent fundraising push, which will line the dog park entrance and pathways. The pavers start at $100.

Committee meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at the Bluebird Park Administration building.
