Traffic Alert: Obama, Cards Game Downtown St. Louis

Drivers may experience traffic delays around downtown St. Louis due to two special events attracting extra attention late Tuesday.

Drivers commuting in downtown St. Louis late Tuesday may encounter traffic or road closures, due in part to an overlap between a St. Louis Cardinals playoff game and a campaign visit from President Obama.

The Cards play the Philadelphia Phillies at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Busch Stadium.

President Obama is scheduled to attend a fundraiser scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown St. Louis.

Local CBS affiliate KMOV reports that multiple streets downtown will be shut down late in the afternoon, including Washington Avenue from 8th Street to 11th Street starting around 3 p.m., as well as parts of 9th Street, 10th Street and others.

Obama is expected to arrive in St. Louis on Air Force One at Lambert International Airport. His motorcade route is not being revealed and the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells Patch it cannot comment on the president's transportation plans for security reasons. Previously, interstates have been shut down as a president's motorcade has traveled through St. Louis.
