Week In Review: June 6 – 12

Government dollars, fun in the park and a new meeting place in town to catch up with old friends make up the last week's headlines for Ellisville and Ballwin.


The heat index around Ballwin and Ellisville reached over 100 degrees early this week, the National Weather Service reported. County health officials asked residents throughout St. Louis County to take some "common sense" efforts to prevent heat-related health hazards – and reminded residents to watch out for our furry househould friends as summer temperatures rise.


Eureka High School senior Melissa Menchella helped take the girls' lacrosse team to a unprecedented finish, and managed to set some area records in the process. After making Eureka the first public school to finish in the state's top 3, Menchella said she will play lacrosse next year at .


The City of Ballwin has roughly $10.4 million in discretionary spending funds, according to the audit presented to council members at the . The firm that provided the audit said an increase in revenue over the previous year's was due to several factors, including a 1 percent sales tax increase and more revenue from utility taxes related to extreme weather. The Ballwin Board of Aldermen is scheduled to next meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the .

Educational displays, arts and insight into Ballwin's own wilderness all were part of the fun at this weekend's Castlewood Days. The festival, which was presented by the Division of State Parks, booked historical actors, musicians and other entertainment for the park's unique celebration of nature and history.
