Community Update

Ellisville Elementary has always been known as an
outstanding school to send your children. I remember starting there eight years ago with my daughter, and
dealing with the nerves of a Mother sending her child into the world; there to truly hold my hand was Mrs. Charlotte Brown, the school secretary. She ushered me into the bustle of activities, encouraging me to pick up a cafeteria shift during the school Carnival. From there it was sealed; I became a member of the great parent support that makes Ellisville even more remarkable. Every staff member in the building exudes a character that cares about our children and the community around us. In the Past 2 years, Ellisville has taken their successes to new heights by becoming a Leader in Me School and teaching the 7 habits to all the students and staff. I have seen seasoned teachers who have their game plan down, realizing that they can reach new heights by handing leadership off to their students. In Mrs. Sturman’s class, she provided her students with a job for the whole year. One student, given the job to pleasantly greet her fellow students every morning, gave me such wonderful sincere compliments, two months later her words bring a smile to my face. To work with students, as young as kindergarten, who can think through the priorities that bring success, is truly amazing. Students who must deal with the toughest situations in life, Parent or sibling illnesses, are talking about how they use the habits to safeguard household health. Elementary students organizing their thoughts and actions by thinking about the outcomes first, is just a beautiful thing to witness. Students who were undetected leaders, are standing up to give speeches at leadership events and organizing projects to thank their community, all by themselves, while the adults step away and let them take lead. In a world where we can often get caught up in what is wrong, hats off to
Elliville Elementary community for shaping a brighter future.
