I Met a Man Named Willie

Yesterday, I met a man named Willie. I was walking around Jefferson Barracks Veterans Medical Center waiting for my husband.  Taking pictures of a project called ‘PATH OF HONOR’, they are lining the side of the walkway with bricks bearing the names, dates and military branch in which the brave men and women who have served this great country we call the United States of America.

I approached Willie as he walked up the walkway and asked. “Sir, did you serve in our military”? He proudly said for 23 years in the Navy and my ‘Brick’ “is right there by where you are standing, one of the first to be placed here”. I told him, “Thank you for serving ”, he replied, “Thank you, mam”.

I asked Willie if I could take his picture, he obliged.

As I walked around the area taking pictures, I cried as I thought of all those who so bravely have served our beloved country, some sacrificing their lives for you, me, our families and for generations to come.  I prayed for God to have mercy on us as a country.
