Cardinals Draft Matheny's Son

Cards draft Tate Matheny

Mike Matheny told the Cardinals not to draft his son Tate, so guess what the Cardinals did.....they drafted Tate Matheny anyway. It wasn't until the 23rd round that the Cardinals decided to grab him. The main reason Mike did not want his son Tate not to be drafted by the Cardinals is mainly about the way Tate would of been treated if he was. Tate would be under a microscope being the managers son.Tate a centerfielder at Westminister High School in St.Louis has hit .610 (61-for-100) with 11 home runs, 10 doubles, 11 triples, 51 RBI, 60 runs and 25 stolen bases during his senior year. I had found out that Tate was believed to be picked in the earlier rounds but many teams passed on him due to having a commitment at Missouri State. Tate was not the only player drafted that has connections with the Cardinals. Jose Oquendo's son Eduardo described as a slick fielding infielder was drafted in the 32 round. Also drafted Micheal Aldrete which is Mike Aldrete's son and Derrick May Jr. the son of the roving instructor Derrick May. The other son of a Cardinal drafted is Jacoby Almarez. His dad is Joe Almarez that works as a cross checker with the Cardinals. Now that the draft is over we will have to wait and see if the Cardinals will sign these players.
