Ballwin Man Arrested for Bank Robbery

Multiple news reports say Jerry L. Brooks, 44, of Ballwin was arrested this weekend for robbing a bank in Troy, MO.

A man from Ballwin charged with robbing a bank in Troy, MO was arrested this weekend after a citizen's tip traced him to a hotel in Caseyville, IL, KMOV reports.

The man, Jerry L. Brooks, 44, was charged with robbing Community State Bank in Troy, Mo. on May 22. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said that during the robbery, Brooks passed a bank teller a note demanding cash and stating that he was armed. Brooks later was charged with armed criminal action and first-degree robbery.

KMOV reported that someone recognized Brooks from video surveillance recorded at the bank shown on news reports following the incident. The tip soon prompted authorities to issue a warrant to search Brooks' home in Ballwin, which police said led to evidence of his involvement in the crime.

Police Chief Jeff Taylor of the Troy Police Department said multiple parties contributed to Brooks' arrest, including his detectives.

"They were able to gather evidence of the crime and secure a confession from the suspect," Taylor told the Lincoln County Journal. "I commend the work they completed as well as the assistance provided by the media in order to bring this suspect into custody."

The Lincoln County Journal reported that the and the Caseyville Police Department also assisted in the investigation.

The Post-Dispatch reports that Brooks' bail was set at $75,000. As of early Monday, he remained at the Lincoln County Jail, according to unofficial court records.
