Ballwin Police Hones in on Drunk Driving

The department's Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over initiative wrapped up earlier in September.

The Ballwin Police Department focused on its Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over initiative Aug. 17-Sept. 3. 

Ballwin officers issued 240 traffic tickets during that time: 5 for driving while intoxicated, 99 for speeding, 20 safety belt tickets and 116 other traffic violations, according to a statement from Ballwin police.

"When we remove a drunk driver from the roads, we’re all safer," said Police Chief Steve Schicker. "Law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make the simple and smartchoice to drive sober."

The statement said DWIs are the main cause of fatal car crashes in Missouri, with 220 fatalities and 902 serious injuries in 2011. For more information, visit SaveMOLives.com.
