Ballwin Police to Host Home-Security Seminar at Lowe's

Police Chief Steve Schicker said homes that are 'easy targets' for crime often can be identified simply by driving by, which will be addressed at the upcoming 'Building on Home Safety' seminar.

The is teaming up with hardware megastore Lowe's this month to help teach residents about home security, the department announced Monday.

Ballwin Police Chief Steve Schicker said the seminar is meant to inform residents what parts of their homes may be the most vulnerable to crimes such as break-ins.

"In many instances, it is as easy as making sure your home’s exterior doors are solid and provide resistance from a would-be intruder," Schicker wrote in the announcement. "Homes that are 'easy targets' can be viewed just by driving by."

Shicker said his department decided to partner with Lowe's for the seminar because the hardware store is the city's "home project center" for building and household improvements.

"With the recent incidents that have occurred throughout the metropolitan area, we would like to assure that our homes are safe havens for our families," Schicker wrote. "If that is not the case, then measures can be taken to address those areas that are susceptible to break-ins and expose our families to criminal activity."
