Ballwin Teen Killed in Car Accident

Missouri State Highway Patrol report that Jacquelyn M. Hurst, 18, died Sunday afternoon.

Former Ballwin resident Jacquelyn M. Hurst, 18, was killed following a car wreck Sunday afternoon outside Kirksville, MO, according to the state highway patrol.

Hurst was traveling in a 2000 Pontiac van driven by Steven F. Owais, 16, who was accompanied by two other teenage boys, when the southbound van lost control and slid, hitting a bridge guardrail around 2:40 p.m. Sunday. The van then traveled off the right edge of the bridge, into an embankment.

Hurst was transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Owais and the other passengers, Drake A Truitt, 16, and Steven P. Calef, 14, all from Kirksville, also were transported to the hospital and treated for moderate injuries.

Hurst was a graduate of Parkway South High School, and was studying at Truman State University at the time of the accident.

Caitlin Fox of Manchester is a senior at Parkway South High School. She said Hurst was not only the most caring person she knew, but also was a best friend.

"There are so many memories that I could share, but one of the greastest was just us two driving around blasting Kesha [songs], laughing, joking, and having a good time. She was my best friend," Fox said. "Jackie will be truly missed by all."
