Update: Ellisville Police Plan Extra Patrols After Stranger-Danger Case

Police confirm increased patrols after an Ellisville Elementary School student was approached by a minivan offering a ride Wednesday.

Police plan a heavier presence around Hummingbird Hill Lane and other school bus stop areas after an Ellisville Elementary School student said she was approached several times by a woman in a minivan who offered her a ride to school. KMOV-TV was first to report the story on Wednesday.

The girl went home and told her parents after the third attempt. A Rockwood spokesman said the family called 911 and filed a police report. Ellisville Elementary Principal Allison Loy notified school families.

Ellisville Police say they also alerted Ridge Meadows Elementary, St. John Lutheran School and St. Clare of Assisi School, and plan extra patrols during pick up and drop off times.

The district said Loy "is proud of the student for doing exactly what parents and teachers have taught their students to do if confronted by a stranger," and reminds parents to have that conversation about what to do if it happens to them.
