Ellisville Pedestrian Struck by Car, Dies

Police said the victim was a resident at the Fountains of West County retirement community on Clayton Road.

An 81 year-old man from Ellisville died this week after being struck by a car while walking across Clarkson Road, Ellisville police said.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday when the victim, Leo Ellinger, was about 400 feet south of Clayton Road on Clarkson and crossed the street from east to west. Ellinger then was struck by a northbound Cadillac STS, immediately causing the driver to stop on impact.

An ambulance was called and transported Ellinger, who sustained severe head trauma, to Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur, where he died at 10:52 p.m. Β 

Police said the driver, a 68 year-old male, was driving the posted speed limit of 35 mph and said he did not see Ellinger, who was wearing dark clothing. The driver will not face criminal charges.

Ellinger was a resident of the , located at 15826 Clayton Road in Ellisville, about a quarter-mile east of Monday's incident.
