Family Safe After Fire at Ballwin Residence

Metro West Fire Protection District says smoke alarms are to thank for the family's safety.

A house fire was reported at 627 Claymont Drive in Ballwin Friday at about 3 p.m. Metro West Fire Department responded to the scene, discovering fire in a one-story structure.

A release from Metro West said the family was safely evacuated after smoke alarms alerted them.

"By having working smoke alarms and the homeowner immediately calling 9-1-1 to report the fire, it helped our crews bring the fire under control relatively quickly," said Metro West Deputy Chief Mike Krause.

Metro West said the incident is still under investigation but appears to be accidental.
