Second Arrest Made Related to Ballwin-Area Man's Shooting Death

Police said a second person has been arrested in connection to the ambush and fatal shooting of a Parkway South High School graduate from the Ballwin area.

Shermell Crockett, 20, is in the custody of St. Louis County police and could face charges that may be filed Tuesday related to the shooting death of a man from the Ballwin area.

Daniil Maksimenko, 22, of Ballwin was shot and killed early Saturday morning while delivering a pizza in Hillsdale around 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

Maksimenko, who graduated from  in 2008, was confronted and shot multiple times, including a shot to the head.

Chester Romelle Woods, 20, was arrested Sunday and was charged with second-degree murder and robbery in the shooting death of Maksimenko. He was not charged with being the actual gunman in the shooting.

Woods, of the 2100 block of Rosebud Avenue in St. Louis County, is being held on $250,000 bail at the St. Louis County jail, police said.

On Tuesday, Rick Eckhard, spokesperson for the St. Louis County Police Department, said Crockett was arrested in Hillsdale Monday night by Hillsdale police.

Crockett previously was identified as a person investigators wanted to talk to in connection to the shooting. Eckhard said charges have not yet been officially filed against Crockett, but they will be presented to prosecutors Tuesday.

Police are still looking for tips from the public.

"We believe four people are involved with this. Woods and three others. Right now, we only have the second person identified, Shermell Crockett. It's very possible there could be two more people involved, or not," Eckhard previously told Patch.

A press release sent out by Eckhard on Tuesday states that robbery appeared to be the motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact St. Louis County Police Dispatch at 314 889-2341. St. Louis County police are investigating and dispatch for the Hillsdale Police Department.
