With day classes and activities cancelled, St. John Church and Lutheran School is expecting to resume all church services and events as of Friday at 3 p.m., according to a press release from the school.

Ellisville Police Chief Tom Felgate confirmed a note containing a bomb threat was discovered Thursday afternoon by a staff member at St. John. Felgate told Patch the threat was that the bomb would go off Friday.

"We had eight of our officers, two detectives and St. John staff conduct a comprehensive search, which turned up nothing," Felgate said. "We thought it was a hoax from the beginning but we wanted to be sure."

The campus went into lockdown mode Thursday afternoon. A press release from St. John said all students in after-school activities were moved to "a safe part of the campus and parents were notified."

Felgate told Patch a funeral was being held at the church Friday morning, and that he felt the situation was fine. He added Ellisville Police are still in the area.

"Since [the threat] was dated for today we still want to have a police presence," Felgate said.

Chief Felgate said the incident is in the police department's hands now and are still investigating the case.

Original report:

A bomb threat at St. John Church and Lutheran School in Ellisville has all classes closed Friday, Dec. 21, according to a KPLR 11 report.

Ellisville Police Department told Patch those working the case were done for the day Thursday after a bomb threat was apparently received Thursday afternoon. The campus appeared to be clear at about 8 p.m. Thursday evening.

KPLR reports all Thursday after-school activities and care were cancelled in addition to Friday classes and activities, adding Metro West Fire Protection District throughly swept the campus for any threats.

St. Louis County Media Relations Officer Randy Vaughn indicated to Patch Ellisville was investigating a bomb threat at the school while checking in on a rumored threat in Affton.

A KMOV report said the school was considered to be safe, but cancelled activities as a precaution. Friday would have been the last day before the school's Christmas break.

Patch will update this story as more information is made available.
