A Look Inside a Missouri American Water Tank in Ballwin
Ever wondered what the inside of one of those giant water tanks looked like? Patch got to take a peek!
You drive by them all the time -- those massive water tanks that provide water to surrounding area residents and businesses.
While this one doesn't have "Save Ferris" emblazoned on its side, the Missouri American Water tank on Kehrs Mill Road near the Clayton intersection was actually void of something more important: Water.
The tank was emptied in mid-August for interior cleaning and wall treatment. With the job done and inspections completed, the 2.5 million-gallon tank is ready to be filled back up by Friday this week. Ballwin-Ellisville Patch took a quick tour of the tank Monday.

Ann Dettmer with Missouri American Water said the Kehrs Mill Road tank is one of 34 tanks in the St. Louis County system. This particular tank serves the cities of Ballwin, Ellisville, Chesterfield, Wildwood, Clarkson Valley and unincorporated areas of the County.
Dettmer said the peak time for water provisions is in the morning. Primarily used in the day, the tank is filled up slowly overnight through a 12-hour time period.

The tank will be disinfected again prior to filling later this week.
