Ballwin Council May Vote on Driver Safety Law

Ballwin City Council members are scheduled to meet Monday to vote on a proposal that would limit how many adults can sit in the front seat of a car.

Ballwin City Council members are expected to vote Monday night on a new law that would cap the number of adult passengers who can legally ride in a vehicle's front seat, in addition to barring drivers from putting their hands outside their vehicle.

The proposal would limit the number of passengers "over the age of 16" who can ride in the front seat of a vehicle to three. The proposal also would make it illegal for any driver or passenger to put any part of his body outside the vehicle's door or window, unless the driver is giving a hand signal as designated in state statutes.

Also on the agenda for Monday is an ordinance authorizing the city to engage in eminent domain. The legislation specifically identifies four parcels of land between the 500 block and 900 block of Kehrs Mill Road that city representatives plan to condemn in order to construct sidewalks.
