Council To Continue Hearing On Walmart Permit

The Ellisville City Council is slated to meet Wednesday night and among the items on the agenda is the continuation of a hearing to consider revoking Wamart's conditional use permit.

The Sansone Group, Walmart's developer for the project which would use Tax Increment Financing to locate a store on Manchester Road west of Kiefer Creek Road, contested the hearing when it began last week.

Sansone's attorney says Walmart is back on board with the project after walking away in early September. At issue now is whether the permit is still in effect. Delayed by a lawsuit questioning the legality of the permit, Sansone obtained a few parcels of land needed for the project in the days before the permit was set to lapse without construction taking place.

At the time, Ellisville's City Attorney George Restovich told Patch he didn't believe enough had been done justify extending the life of the permit. Last week's hearing was delayed after Sansone challenged Mayor Adam Paul's ability to vote in the administrative hearing and also challenged the idea that Restovich could both serve as the city's counsel and administrator of the hearing.

A work session prior to the meeting is scheduled to include discussion of moving to terminate the city's redevelopment agreement with Sansone for the Walmart project.
