Council Vote Wednesday On Ellisville City Manager's Fate

Council members moved last week to prepare a motion to remove Kevin Bookout, who has been criticized for his role in the impeachment of Mayor Adam Paul.

The Ellisville City Council has called a special meeting for Wednesday at 6 p.m. where members will vote on a preliminary resolution to remove City Manager Kevin Bookout.

The vote comes after a motion passed last week directing the City's Attorney to draft the resolution. Bookout was on the dais at the time of the vote and left last week's meeting without talking to reporters.

Bookout has been accused by Mayor Adam Paul as playing a behind-the-scenes role in the events leading up to Paul's impeachment. Paul was reinstated in July. After introducing the motion last week, Council member Mick Cahill said Bookout had been acting without listening to the voice of the council and did not communicate equally with all members of the body.

If the council votes to approve the preliminary motion Wednesday, Bookout, who could then be suspended under the city charter, would have five days to file an appeal which would then be heard in front of the council.

Bookout did not respond to an interview request made earlier Tuesday, prior to the announcement of Wednesday's meeting.
