Ellisville Facility for Veterans Poised for Approval

The former site of a Jiffy Lube in Ellisville is likely to be converted into a site for handling donations used to raise funds aimed at assisting disabled veterans.

Disabled veterans near Ellisville are likely to soon have a new facility available that indirectly aids services ranging from transportation to doctor's visits to financial aid, depending on a vote likely to appear before city council members next month.

The Ellisville City Council unanimously approved preliminary measures for the facility at .

The operation would be based at 32 Clarkson Rd.—the former site of a Jiffy Lube. The facility would have two full-time employees whose duties would include collecting charitable drop-offs of resale items and handling internal operations. Once collected, the items donated at the site would be resold at facilities in the works in Fenton and Bridgeton, with proceeds later applied to various services for disabled local veterans.

“There are serious problems with the disabled veterans, many of them coming home from Afghanistan with problems…some of which are very serious,” said John King, an attorney associated with the project. “Others have lost their legs, arms etc., so what they want to do is to be able to continue to help those families.”
