Ellisville Hearing Looks At Easing Business Regulations

The Ellisville Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Wednesday at City Hall starting at 7 p.m.

The Ellisville Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing Wednesday night with a focus on making the city more friendly to business.

More specifically, the panel will consider changes to the zoning code and sign code regulations "to facilitate business development and retention," according to the meeting's agenda.

Discussions about changes to the code have been ongoing for several weeks, although the hearing comes at a time when the city is looking anew at business development, especially with Walmart's recent decision to pull out of a controversial TIF project on Manchester Road. The move saves approximately 100 apartment residents from eviction, but throws into some question about how the adjacent vacant properties, including several former car dealerships and a McDonalds restaurant, will be developed. Currently, there are plans to build an AT&T store on the McDonalds site.

“Get your popcorn ready,” Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch Monday. “We are going to create a soft landing pad for businesses that want to locate here.”
