Ellisville Independence Day Celebration Will Not Be Rescheduled

Ellisville city government says putting the event together in a future date will not be feasible.

Any Ellisville residents still hoping to catch a glimpse of fireworks and patriotic celebrations in their city will have to wait another year.

The city of Ellisville announced Thursday that the Independence Day celebration, which had been postponed from July 4, will not occur at all this year.

“After much discussion regarding the coordination of all vendor and labor needs, the City Council determined that the rescheduling of the 2012 Celebration would not be feasible,” said the city in a press release. “The annual Independence Day Celebration will resume in on July 4, 2013.”

The July 4 event was first cancelled due to extreme heat and drought conditions, which still persist today. Most St. Louis municipalities cancelled their fireworks as well. Some, however, cancelled only the fireworks portion but kept their celebration, such as Webster Groves.

Tell us in our comments: Was this the right move for the city? Are you disappointed there will be no celebration in Ellisville this year?
