Fight Over Suspended Ellisville Mayor Moves Online

A citizens group has launched a website in support of Adam Paul that it says is designed to share information and call citizens to action.

Supporters of embattled Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul who have long used public meetings to voice their opinions are now expanding into the online realm.

Calling it a grass roots effort, the group sent out a press release Monday announcing the launch of www.supportmayorpaul.com, a website dedicated to providing information about Paul’s pending impeachment hearing and calling citizens to action.

The press release quotes Elizabeth Schmidt, an Ellisville resident who has frequently spoke in support of Paul at city council meetings.

“We feel that the current city council has acted to disenfranchise the voters,” she said. “We feel the political process has been abused by those in power, and that impeaching Mayor Paul is fundamentally wrong.”

The group is also asking residents to participate in an online survey aimed at gauging opinions about the council’s actions concerning Paul and city government as a whole.

Paul was suspended from office on March 6 after the council approved a resolution calling for his removal. The document includes charges that the mayor gave illegal orders to city employees, disclosed confidential information and attempted to unilaterally end a contract with the city’s attorney.

Paul has denied all charges and will now face a hearing on the allegations on March 27.
