International Baseball Tournament Comes to Ballwin Aug. 4

The tournament will include approximately 200 players from Japan, Europe and Australia.

The London Olympics may be underway, but Ballwin will soon be hosting its own international tournament with players from all over the world.

On Friday, Aug. 3, approximately 200 players, coaches and families will arrive in St. Louis from Japan, Europe and Australia to take part on the St. Louis Boys Baseball Association International Tournament.

The U-15 and U-12  tournament will run from Aug. 4-11, and held at Ballwin’s Athletic Association.

“This is a great opportunity for the city,” said Ballwin Mayor Tim Pogue at the city’s last Board of Aldermen meeting. “It will put Ballwin on the map.”

For more than 25 years, the tournament has been held in other athletic associations in West County. .

Players will stay with local families and will be given tours of the city and vicinity, including trips to the North Pointe Aquatic Center, which the international athletes will be able to enter for free, as approved by Ballwin’s board of aldermen at their last meeting.
