Mayor-Elect Adam Paul Talks Walmart on KMOX

Mayor-elect Adam Paul told Charlie Brennan on KMOX that local governments shouldn't get involved with private enterprise.

Before on tax incentives for Walmart, Mayor Elect Adam Paul went on Charlie Brennan’s KMOX talk show to explain why his election this week could be bad news for the big box store.

Paul, who is staunchly to town, won 44 percent of the vote Wednesday, which he called an “eye-opener.”

“This is equal to a referendum on welfare for the wealthy,” Paul told Brennan on air.

Paul said the city officials had “kind of spread ourselves thin” by getting involved in business issues.

“I don’t believe that a local government by any means should get involved with the free market or any private enterprise,” he said. “They should focus on what they are good at,” such as building parks and improving roads.

Current Ellisville on the issue until Paul is sworn in as mayor.

“We are trying to do everything we can possible to close out this deal and send (the Sansone Group) and Walmart packing,” Paul said.
