MoDOT Trading Duties for West County Roads

MoDOT and St. Louis County are switching which agency will maintain some West County roads, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Spokesperson Andrew Gates confirms reports that MoDOT and St. Louis County will exchange responsibilities for the care of some roads this summer, including portions of Clayton and Ballas near Ballwin.

In an email to Patch, Gates explained the decision for the road swaps.

Per Thomas Blair, our Assistant District Engineer, St. Louis County already controls portions of the roadways they are receiving. This transfer gives them better control over those stretches of road. Overall, this transfer will better align both the state's and county's resources toward providing efficient transportation services for the St. Louis region. MoDOT should have responsibility for the larger roadways in the region (the ones with the most vehicles).
