Suspended Ellisville City Manager Requests Appeal Hearing

The city council took the first step to fire Kevin Bookout last week.

Ellisville City Manager Kevin Bookout, suspended since a vote of the City Council last week, will seek a hearing in a closed session of the body sometime within the next month, according to City Clerk Leigh Dohack.

Council members voted 4-3 last week to approve a preliminary motion to remove Bookout from office. The motion also suspended him with pay while the council determines his fate.

Bookout's critics, including Mayor Adam Paul, have alleged that he conspired with others to orchestrate the impeachment proceedings brought against Paul earlier this year.

Bookout has declined several requests for comment on the attempt to remove him from office and could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Ellisville City Clerk Leigh Dohack said word of the appeal, which would be held in a private session of City Council, came late Wednesday afternoon. Under the city charter, that private session will be held no sooner than 20 days and no later than 30 days after the appeal was received. Dohack understands that to mean that it would happen sometime between October 7 and October 18.

According to the charter, a final vote on removal would come five days after the closed session is completed.
