Today's the Day: Mayor's Impeachment Hearing Is Tonight

What brought us to this point? Review some of the stories that have preceded this drama in Ellisville, leading to a hearing tonight centered on Mayor Adam Paul.

It's been more than a month now since Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul was suspended from office by fellow members of the city council, who leveled a slew of charges against him ranging from the series to the silly.

Tonight, those accusations and the suspension come to a major milestone, though likely not a conclusion: At 6 p.m., the city council is scheduled to meet at Ellisville Elementary School to consider whether Paul is unfit for office and should be removed.

The charges generally focus on whether Paul violated various provisions of the city charter through actions such as requesting letterhead from city employees (that is, directing the work of the staff) or more serious accusations such as revealing information publicly that was discussed in private, closed-door sessions of the Ellisville city council.

The hearing also comes the day before city elections in Ellisville and throughout the region, elections that could change the balance of power on the Ellisville city council and, ultimately, preserve Paul's seat on the council.
