Write-in Candidate Declares for Ballwin Mayoral Race

Charles McCloskey of Ballwin joins the city's race for mayor on Tuesday.

Charles McCloskey of Ballwin filed Tuesday as a write-in candidate for mayor, which will pit him against incumbent Mayor Tim Pogue in next month’s elections.

Although McCloskey’s name will not appear on the April 5 ballots, Tuesday’s action does give Pogue opposition in his pursuit of voter support.

“I have been upset by the way the city is perceived by others in West St. Louis County,” McCloskey said in a written statement. “The current administration has lost its way in budget management, hiring practices and respect for the voters. Residents bringing issues to the city government should be treated with respect and a listening ear.”

McCloskey also cited a desire to “be a voice for business development along the Manchester Road corridor,” and consequently, to expedite plans regarding the area’s .

According to his media statement, McCloskey is an Eagle Scout, holds an engineering degree from University of Notre Dame and has served 8 years in U.S. military.
