“We are really thrilled about the large number of actors we are planning on casting in The Little Mermaid Jr. production this summer,” said David Kozinski, production manager of Rockwood Community Education – Spotlight Productions, in a news announcement about the audition schedule. “This will allow younger kids who have no or limited experience in theater to participate in a really fun and positive atmosphere and get to work with more experienced theater members.”

The Little Mermaid Jr. is an adaptation from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production. The show will feature hit songs including “Part of Your World,” “She’s in Love,” and the Oscar-winning “Under the Sea.” The adapted version makes it possible for a large cast where many students will be able to play multiple parts in the chorus.

Auditions are by appointment only, and can be scheduled online beginning March 4, on Spotlight’s website. Callbacks will take place beginning at 4 p.m. April 21.

Auditions are only open to ages 6-18 years old. Rehearsals will begin June 3,  and primarily will take place from 2-5 p.m.

“Our program through Rockwood Community Education is truly a unique, fun and empowering experience for the students that participate. The six-week camp-style production not only teaches the fundamentals of theater, but also about friendship and responsibility. The kids really make it their own and are so proud of their work when show time arrives in July,” Kozinski said.

Spotlight Productions is a community theater company offered by the Rockwood School District’s Community Education Department. Since its inception in 1997, the company has produced more than 15 full-scale musical productions featuring youth and adult actors from throughout the St. Louis region. To date, Spotlight Productions has received more than 100 nominations resulting in 29 awards for performance and technical production from St. Louis’ Arts for Life Best Performance Awards.

Spotlight currently produces one full-stage musical production each summer that is rehearsed in a camp-style format for ages 6 and up. All areas of theater are introduced to the participants though a six-week rehearsal and education programming process.
