Ballwin, Ellisville-Area College Students Make the Grade

Patch got wind of several college students from the area who made the Dean's List or high school students receiving scholarships to colleges and universities across the country.

Several Ballwin and Ellisville-area college students also made the grade this semester, or were awarded scholarships to a higher education institution. The following information was provided by the students' schools. Congratulations to the following students and students-to-be! 

Maggie Anderson from Ellisville, marketing major at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind.: Degree-seeking undergraduate students at Butler who carry at least 12 academic hours in a given semester are eligible for the Dean's List in the college in which they are enrolled. Students on the list are in the top 20 percent of their college, as determined by the semester grade point average of all eligible students in each college.

Tyler Blake from Ballwin, student at Taylor University in Upland, Ind.: Taylor was named to the Fall 2012 Dean's List at Taylor University. Full-time students are named to the Dean's List when they have earned a GPA of 3.60 or higher for the term and taken at least 12 hours of classes.

Natalie Crumbaugh from Ballwin, student at Harding University in Searcy, Ark.: The dean's list is published each semester by Dr. Larry Long, university provost, honoring those who have achieved high scholarship. To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes.

Mackenzie Cullen from Ballwin, student at Parkway South High: Mackenzie Cullen of Ballwin, Mo., has received the University Scholarship and Residence Life Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Cullen will be a 2013 graduate of Parkway South High School in Manchester, Mo. She is the daughter of Karen Cullen of Ballwin and the late Mark Cullen.

Sara Duval from Ballwin, student at Providence College in Providence, R.I.: Sara Duval, a resident of Ballwin, MO and a member of the class of 2016, has been named to the Dean's List at Providence College for the Fall 2012 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, students must achieve at least a 3.55 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits.

Kelly Esser from Ballwin, student at University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind.: Kelly made the Dean's List by achieving at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Brian Hoenyck from Ballwin, student at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis.: Brian is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences. He was named to the Dean's List for the Fall 2012 semester.

Mackenzie Mangels from Ballwin, student at University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind.: Mackenzie made the Dean's List by achieving at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Mark Edward Masalskis from Ballwin, junior athletic training major at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo.: Mark was named to the President's List for the Fall 2012 semester. To be named to an honors list, Culver-Stockton College requires students to meet high academic standards. President's List students have earned a 4.0 GPA and were enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours. 

Rachel Murray from Ellisville, student at University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill.: Rachel Murray, from Ellisville, Mo., was named to the dean's honor list for the Fall 2012 semester. Students who have attained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher at the end of the semester in which he or she has taken at least 12 credit hours are named to thedean's honor list.

Kayla Nienhaus from Ballwin, biology major at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind.: Degree-seeking undergraduate students at Butler who carry at least 12 academic hours in a given semester are eligible for the Dean's List in the college in which they are enrolled. Students on the list are in the top 20 percent of their college, as determined by the semester grade point average of all eligible students in each college.

Connor Perkins from Ballwin, student at Washington and Lee University in Alexandria, Va.: Connor was named to the Dean's List for the Fall 2012 term. Dean's list status at Washington and Lee represents a term grade-average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

Alex Peterson from Ballwin, student at Berry College in Rome, Ga.: Alex has been named to Berry College's Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must carry a semester GPA of 3.5 or better.

Kaitlyn Smyth from Ballwin, doctorate of physical therapy student at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis.: Kaitlyn has been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester at Marquette. Smyth is pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy in Physical Therapy. 

Shaylynn Weststeyn from Ballwin, student at Biola University in La Mirada, Calif.: In February, Shaylynn Weststeyn, from Ballwin was one of 1,306 students who were named to Biola University's Spring 2012 Dean's List for academic excellence.

Biola students are placed on the Dean's List to honor those with a grade point average of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in twelve of more credit units and whose cumulative grade point average is at least a 3.2. This past spring, 33 percent of Biola students achieved this academic goal.

The following students received Dean's List honors at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.:

  • Amelia Ayers, freshman from Ballwin
  • Caroline Ayers, junior from Ballwin
  • Erika Harris, freshman from Ballwin
  • Trent Husak, junior from Ballwin
  • Mitchell Stewart, sophomore from Ballwin
