Ballwin Senior Living Center in Top Entities for State Funding

A new senior citizens' center in Ballwin was among those businesses that received a green light for significant state funding during 2012.

Of 54 applications submitted to the Missouri Health Facilities Review Committee in 2012 to request a Certificate of Need (CON) for construction projects or the purchase of new medical equipment, funding was approved to bolster a new Ballwin Senior Living center, as reported Monday by the St. Louis Business Journal.

Called The Solana West County, the $19.8 million project reflects a 98-bed assisted-living center. It opened this past summer, said Tom Aiken, assistant city administrator at city planner at the Ballwin Government Center.

It was St. Louis County's third largest project considered by the 2012 health facilities committee, and eighth largest project overall, stated the article in the journal.

Sitting on 4.5 acres in Ballwin, the project was developed by Atlanta-based Formation-Shelbourne Partners on the corner of Clayton Road, Henry Avenue and Schoettler, just west of Town and Country Crossing shopping center.

The site is part of an 11-acre parcel being developed by Brinkmann Constructors.

The Solana is a luxury assisted-living community designed to help residents live as independently as possible with stimulating lifestyles. The center also provides Alzheimer's and Dementia Care options for seniors, said executive director Alicia Powers.

She said the center's staff offers specialized and compassionate care to those who need some help with the activities of daily living, but who do not require the skilled care provided in nursing homes.
